Aim: The Wörth Spine Concept “Kraftwerk” (power plant) was developed at the DaimlerChrysler plant in Wörth for the prevention of and reduction of existing back pain. By strengthening of the lumbar extensors, back pain is counteracted preventatively and rehabilitatively, pain is reduced and the subjective quality of life is improved. Method: All DaimlerChrysler employees at the plant in Wörth can train on stationary or mobile fitness units unless contraindications are discovered during anamnestic conversation or recording of the diagnosis. The evaluation is based upon the measured strength indicators as well as the details given in questionnaires by the “Kraftwerk“ participants. Results: Initial evaluation of the results at the University of Heidelberg confirm that regular “Kraftwerk’ training leads to an improvement of strength indicators and reduction in pain described by the participants. Furthermore, participants indicate an improved subjective quality of life. Positive impacts of spine training on work incapacity data is described in a thesis on this topic and discussed in the present article. Conclusions: Because of the good results and positive response from employees, the Wörth spine concept will be continued and further extended within the scope of the company’s health promotion measures.
