This paper describes the health-related risk behaviour and results of pre-employment medical examinations of applicants for technical vocational training and persons undertaking commercial vocational traineeships at Daimler AG, Stuttgart in the past three years. While a positive trend in healthrelated risk behaviour can be discerned, the medical examination results indicate cause for concern in some areas. We found that a significant proportion of the persons were either overweight or underweight, had raised blood pressure, musculo-skeletal abnormalities, hearing malfunction and/or laboratory test results that were outside the normal ranges. Data of this type is not only a basis for individual advice, it can be used as well as a basis for formulating preventive measures focussed on a target group.
