Neuropsychological expert testimony is not unusually a component of expert testimony in occupational medicine and toxicology. With regard to its extent and content, it must be tailored to the specific requirements and questions asked. As a general rule it is not possible to make a final aetiological statement, but only to describe signs, symptoms and syndromes which, however, may be defined very precisely by means of psychometric testing and validation procedures. Judgements which are beyond the scope of the discipline are to be avoided, since they may be the source of contradictions or errors. In most cases only a critical, experienced, balanced and integrative judgement by persons from several disciplines in conjunction will allow a final, unambiguous and viable answer.
