The psychological strain in the police force seems likely to be among the highest in the professional world. More and more authors report that policemen suffer from the consequences of work-related stress, mainly in the social and mental domain. In this professional group more alcohol consumption, suicides and divorces have been demonstrated. In addition political, governmental, and general social conditions such as increasing crime, discussion of the value and reputation of the police, also health, fitness, sickness data, employee satisfaction and motivation of police officers play an essential role. Strategies are necessary for an effective reduction of this strain.
