The company physician — with his participation in occupational integration management — acts in the area of conflict between the interests of the employer and the employee. His duties are prescribed by the German legislator in the Safety at Work Act and in the Social Security Code IX. His advice must be neutral, free of directive and based only on medical issues, not being biased towards the interests either of the employer or the workers. Rehabilitation and participation of disabled persons can only be successful if there is commitment both in society and at the workplace. The creation of suitable jobs for people with impaired health must be recognized as an important goal.
