This paper describes the current position on the subject of work-related strain and disorders in musicians. The most prevalent health problems in musicians involve the musculoskeletal system which is subject to strain resulting from repetitive movements, often in combination with prolonged weight-bearing in an awkward position. Other common complaints of instrumentalists include peripheral neuropathy, focal dystonia, skin irritation, and loss of hearing acuity. To sum up: more involvement of occupational medicine for orchestra musicians is required.
