Objective: Workplace health management has now become an integral component of modern occupational medicine. In a pilot project conducted by the Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft (VBG), this concept was rolled out at two VBG companies and analyzed for economic viability in a corporate environment. Methods: The profile of company A was as follows: building society, 430 employees; staffing structure: average age 44 years, 80 % women; percentage of days on sick leave: > 6 %, health protection: yes. A health analysis was conducted involving a structured sequence of interviews with experts, health workshops, and an employee survey. The health diagnosis with recommendations for action was based on the resulting data. The profile of company B was as follows: insurance company, 250 employees; staffing structure: average age 38 years, 65 % women; good internal communications, low turnover, percentage of days on sick leave: 6 %, health protection: yes. Four one-day training sessions were held on “The Executive as Health Manager“ with follow-up coaching sessions by an external provider for the 40 participating managers. The goal: to create a framework for an earnest dialogue on health between management and employees, addressing 14 personal and situation-based offers. Results and Conclusions: The project was a success and served to introduce the topic of “health“ into these companies. In Company A, the project succeeded in establishing integrated workplace health management on the basis of the study results. In Company B, targeted interventions demonstrated the utility and effectiveness of a health management program run by the company’s leaders. The project duration of 12 months proved to be too short.
