The object of this article is to review workplace violence, especially sexual assaults on staff working in the health sector and to describe their frequency, consequences and the associated risk factors. For this purpose, the results of a whole range of studies dealing with this issue are presented. The article discusses the incidence of assaults on staff in hospitals, in the mental health sector and in emergency departments. In conclusion, recommendations for prevention and coping with this issue are presented.
