Reporting on health is an instrument of modern public health developed from social medicine and epidemiology. Its aim is to improve the data basis of health policy decisions, to make public health policy more rational and to meet demands. In addition, it is hoped that a contribution will be made towards citizen participation in health policy decisions. In Germany, reporting on health is still a relatively young discipline. It was developed in the 1990s. Reporting on health is carried out at a federal, state and municipal level, as well as by further institutions, i.e. health insurance companies and enterprises.
